We’re pleased to report that Costco has announced that it is committing to reducing harmful chemicals in the products it sells by adopting a new Chemicals Management Policy! Fewer hazardous chemicals on Costco’s shelves mean fewer hazardous chemicals in our homes, our bodies, and our environment.
Costco members got some welcome news this month about its “Smart Screening” program to address toxic chemicals in some of the products the company sells.
“Oh no, not Costco!” That’s what tens of thousands of consumers are saying about the company’s failure to announce a public policy to reduce toxic chemicals in products sold in their stores. As a result, it’s time for us to take this campaign to the next level to convince Costco to “mind the store” and announce a safe chemicals policy, and we need Costco members to help!
I have a bone to pick with our favorite Pacific Northwest company. Part of the “Costco Code of Ethics” is to “take care of our members.” But it turns out that they aren’t taking care of their members when it comes to toxic chemicals.

In a win for consumers nationwide and our Mind the Store campaign, Ashley Furniture has announced a timeframe for banning toxic flame retardant chemicals in all of their furniture!
We’re just 8 days away… We’ve asked the big ten retailers to respond to our new Mind the Store campaign by June 1st, and I think the initial responses will be telling to see who is willing to sit down with us and work out a plan for addressing toxic chemicals.
Our bloggers are helping to move the market away from toxic chemicals! With the combined efforts of concerned citizens around the country as well as the top retailers ongoing efforts, we are hoping that trips to your local retailer will come with a little extra piece of mind.
You may have seen the buzz online about our newest campaign called Mind the Store. To be honest, I’m really excited about this endeavor. If there is one thing I can really relate to, it’s the experience of walking into my favorite retailer and wondering which of the products are safe and which may contain toxic chemicals.
