Will you plan a Retailer Rendezvous?

I’ll be honest, if I’m talking to a store manager, it’s likely because I’m really upset about something minor that just happened. Being mischarged for something, a disgruntled employee or something else that is small in the overall grand scheme of things.

But as we launched our new Mind the Store campaign, asking retailers to get tough on toxic chemicals, I’ve been presented with the opportunity to talk to store managers about something big. Something that really matters, and it feels good.

In April we launched the Mind the Store campaign, where we’re asking the nation’s top ten retailers to get tough on the Hazardous 100+ toxic chemicals. So far it’s been a hit, but we need your help to bring the campaign to the next level.

Toxic chemicals linked to a variety of health issues like cancer, early puberty, infertility and hormone-disruption are found in the products we use and buy every single day. Our broken federal laws are allowing these chemicals to end up in our products, stores and lives. As part of the solution, retailers have a large opportunity, and responsibility to move the market away from these toxic chemicals.

Here’s where you come in.

Many of you care deeply about protecting yourselves and families from toxic chemicals. Many of you have already talked to store
managers about chemicals in products. We’re launching a fun toolkit for everyday people like you and me to plan a Retailer Rendezvous with your friends.

Play dates are hard to schedule, why not use these times to create social change in the world? We’ve created a simple toolkit for you and your friends to get together and set up a casual and friendly meeting with your favorite retailer’s store manager.

With your help, we can start a grassroots campaign that really wakes up our nation’s retailers. Do you remember the Stroller Brigades from a few years back? They took off, parents from all across the country planned their own events and Congress took note.

Now we’re hoping we can do the same thing and plan Retailer Rendezvous across the country.

Here’s how you can participate:

  1. Read and download the Retailer Rendezvous toolkit, full of easy, how-to steps and frequently asked questions
  2. Get planning with your friends! These aren’t a lot of work or time, and they are fun. At the end of the day you can use your next play date to help change this broken system and encourage retailers to take action on toxic chemicals.
  3. Have your friends watch this one-minute video on the Mind the Store campaign to get acquainted with what we’re doing and why it’s important to get involved!

Check out our new grassroots Retailer Rendezvous toolkit and get busy planning!
