When it comes to moving our economy away from unsafe chemicals, perhaps no one has more power than major retailers to push suppliers and manufacturers, and ultimately the chemical industry, toward more responsible practices.
Who will be Next to Join Them?
Fantastic news!! Home Depot and Lowe’s, the two largest home improvement chains in the country, announced they will ban toxic phthalates added to vinyl flooring by the end of the year!
We’re just 8 days away… We’ve asked the big ten retailers to respond to our new Mind the Store campaign by June 1st, and I think the initial responses will be telling to see who is willing to sit down with us and work out a plan for addressing toxic chemicals.
In 2012, HealthyStuff.org tested both the hoses and the water that sat in a hose for a few days. Our test data showed that the plastic additives in PVC hoses, including phthalates and bisphenol A (BPA), leach out of the hose and into the water. When we lab tested the water, we found additives at levels many times higher than drinking water.
Our bloggers are helping to move the market away from toxic chemicals! With the combined efforts of concerned citizens around the country as well as the top retailers ongoing efforts, we are hoping that trips to your local retailer will come with a little extra piece of mind.

We wanted to share some of the highlights so you could see how easy it is to ask your favorite retailers to Mind the Store.
You may have seen the buzz online about our newest campaign called Mind the Store. To be honest, I’m really excited about this endeavor. If there is one thing I can really relate to, it’s the experience of walking into my favorite retailer and wondering which of the products are safe and which may contain toxic chemicals.
